Abstract (Abstrak)
This present study aims to (1) find out the profile of physics education students at Universitas Negeri Makassar, (2) reveal the students’ needs in learning English of ICP Physics education students at Universitas Negeri Makassar. This study employed a mixed method as a research design, with the use of mixed methods to provide an inventory of needs that can facilitate the development of ESP materials in the ICP Physics Department. This study involved the second-semester students of ICP of Physics Education Department students which consisted of 30 students. In the process of collecting the data, several instruments were utilized such as questionnaires and interviews. This research analyzed the data through questionnaires and interviews. The findings showed that Learners' deficiency is a learning difficulty where there is a decline in children's learning in achieving their English skills, namely speaking, listening, reading, and writing. To ensure effective teaching, it is crucial to assess the learners' existing knowledge and identify any gaps in their understanding. The first concept, linguistic needs, refers to identifying students' learning abilities and priorities. These linguistic needs pertain to gathering information on the types of language components, functions, and topics that are necessary to include in the syllabus. The second concept discusses learning needs, which are divided into two points: learning problems and learning styles. The researcher outlines the main components of each of the three theoretical concepts to make it a more applicable inventory for designing a course syllabus.
