Abstract (Abstrak)

Eko Julianto Perwira (D021 17 1521). Design of a Fender Gating System Using Sand Casting Method. (supervised by Dr. Muhammad Syahid, ST., MT., and Azwar Hayat, ST., M.Sc., Ph.D.)

This research intend to find out the influence of gating system design on casting simulation and experiment with silica sand media. In this study, 3 gating system design modeling were conducted, which are middle gating system, bottom gating system, and vertical gating system of fender. The best of simulation result of these 3 gating systems then conducted experimentally. From the result of the simulation showed that the middle gating system design from fender provides more optimalt result and has smaller number of porosity defects. The dimensions of pouring basin Ø35 X 20 mm, Sprue Ø15.5 X Ø11 X 84 mm, runner 100 X 10 X 8 mm, well base Ø23 X 13 mm, Ingate 10 X 8 mm, riser Ø55 X 40.5 mm, riser Ø55 X 40.5 mm. The porosity test showed a correlation between the location of the predicted defects in simulation result and the location of defects in casting products.

Penelitiaan ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh desain hasil gating system terhapdap simulasi pengecoran dan experiment dengan menggunakan metode pengecoran melalui pengecoran pasir silika (silica sand).Pada penelitian ini dilakukan 3 macam pemodelan desain gating system yaitu middle gating system, bottom gating system, dan vertical gating system. Hasil simulasi terbaik dari 3 macam desain gating system tersebut akan dilakukan pengujian secara experiment. Dari hasil simulasi, menunjukkan bahwa simulasi desain middle gating system memberikan hasil yang lebih optimal dan jumlah cacat porositas yang lebih sedikit. Dengan dimensi Pouring basin Ø35 X 20 mm, Sprue Ø15.5 X Ø11 X 84 mm, runner 100 X 10 X 8 mm, well base Ø23 X 13 mm, Ingate 10 X 8 mm, riser Ø55 X 40.5 mm, riser Ø55 X 40.5 mm. Hasil pada pengujian porositas menunjukkan adanya korelasi antara lokasi prediksi cacat hasil simulasi dengan lokasi cacat pada produk coran secara eksperimen.
