Abstract (Abstrak)

Human exploitation of sand beaches along the coastal waters of Takalar
district will certainly affect the morphological of seabed along those waters. The
general purpose of this study is to identify the bathymetric conditions moreover
the changes on the seabed morphology as result of exploitation activities. The
data used in this study include depth and tidal (high and low) data collected using
Singlebeam Echosunder Garmin GPSmap 585 type, Real Time Kinematic (RTK)
GPS furthermore secondary data used in bathymetric maps. The method used in
this study encompasses observation method and data collection. Data analyses
uses data description, which includes comparison of bathymetric measurement,
Spatial analyses with the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) and further
literature reference. The study indicate the study area to be of the continental
shelf environment, with a maximum depth of up to 51 meters, relatively plain
relief with the slope of approximately 0.4%. However, analyses on the changes of
seabed morphology due to coastal sand mining and exploitation indicate that the
coastal sand has been exploited for the past two years. The changes around the
study area shows the deepening of the seabed with dimensions about 2000 meters
in length and 15 meters in thickness, this indicate that there is an increasing depth
at the mining area.
