Abstract (Abstrak)

This research about the structure of sea-grass communities in Barrang Lompo island,Makassar, South Sulawesi. The research aims to determine the structure communities
forming of sea-grass in those island. Research station consists of 3 stations by vastareas of sea-grass distribution in the Barrang Lompo island. Sampling is done withtransect method plot combination and using a corer and plot size of 50 x 50 cm. Seagrass
samples is measured its density by calculating the percentage cover and
frequency of each type of sea-grass in the plot. Sea-grass biomass measurements by
counting the number of shoots each type of sea-grass and then dried in an oven at
750C for ± 96 hours. Data analysis by calculating the absolute density, relative
density, dominance index, Important Value Index (IVI) and index spread of Morisita.
Obtained the results that Cymodocea rotundata is sea-grass species with the highest
density at all stations with an average value 568 ind/m2 and the lowest Cymodocea
serrulata with an average value 40 ind/m2. The higest relative coverage, density and
frequency for whole station was Cymodoccea rotundata. The highest biomass for
whole station was Enhalus acoroides. The spread of Cymodocea serrulata,
Halophylla ovalis and Thalassia hemprichii distributed randomly on all stations.
Cymodocea rotundata in station (1) and (2) distributed in groups, at the station (3)
randomly. Enhalus acoroides, Thalassia hemprichii, Halophila ovalis and
Cymodocea serrulata at whole station distributed randomly.
