Konflik dalam Fifty Shades of Grey karya E.L James = Conflict in E.L James's Fifty Shades of Grey

The aims of this study are: 1) to describe the internal and external conflict in E.L James’ Fifty Shades of Grey; 2) to explain Anastasia Steele’s experience the struggle in Fifty Shades of Grey; and 3) to find out the impact of the conflict in main character behavior and relationship. The data in this study are taken from E.L James’ Fifty Shades of Grey. The approach used in this thesis is a structuralism approach by applying library research method to describe issue or phenomena observed in the novel. To support this study, the writer obtained both main data and supporting data. The main data were obtained from Fifty Shades of Grey novel. While the supporting data were obtained from books, theses, journal and articles relevant to the study. The result shows that the conflict in E.L James’s Fifty Shades is divided into two: 1) internal conflict: Anastasia Steele and herself, and Christian Grey and himself, 2) external conflict: Anastasia Steele and Jose Rodriguez, and Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey. The second problem which has been formulated by the writer is about Anastasia’s struggle in Relationship. Along with the actions, the writer has divided Anastasia’s struggle in relationship into four: beating/hitting, controlling, stalking, and isolating Anastasia with friends. The third is which has the impact from all of the actions mentioned above for Anastasia Steele, Christian Grey, and their relationship.
