Abstract (Abstrak)
The aims of this study are: 1) to analyze Jack Salmon's response to Susie's death; 2) to find out Jack Salmon's efforts in dealing with Susie's death. The researcher uses one of the psychological theories, namely the Stages of Grief by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross. Thus, this study attempts to reveal how Jack Salmon's response to Susie's death can change his life psychologically. The approach used in the qualitative approach or descriptive method to analyze or describe the problems found. The study is based on primary data and secondary data. Primary data is the main source of data that the author obtained directly from the novel The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold while secondary data was obtained through general literature books related to the study. The results of this study indicate that Jack Salmon's response to Susie's death was with shock, disbelief, anger, hatred, guilt, regret, depression, and acceptance. At the denial stage, his response was shock and disbelief. Then, anger and hatred as his response at the anger stage. Furthermore, guilt and regret as his response at the offer stage. At the depression stage, he felt sadness, emptiness, emptiness, and loneliness that was so deep. Then, at the acceptance stage, some feelings such as sadness and emptiness in the previous stage were still experienced, but he responded to them with acceptance.
