The Elusive Dreamer: Analisis Psikologis Karakter dalam "The Great Gatsby" : Studi Kasus Jay Gatsby (Dibimbing oleh Zhangfan) Penelitian ini mendalami psikologi karakter dalam karya sastra karya F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby, dengan fokus pada karakter misterius Jay Gatsby. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkap kompleksitas Gatsby melalui teknik analisis sastra dan lensa psikologis (termasuk teori Freudian, Jungian, dan eksistensial), serta mempelajari kepribadian, motivasi, dan hubungan dalam cerita. Penelitian juga mengungkap sejarah, pesona, dan interaksi Gatsby dengan karakter lain seperti Daisy Buchanan, Nick Carraway, dan Tom Buchanan. Artikel ini juga memberi petunjuk detail tentang karakter Gatsby dan dampak novelnya terhadap tema yang lebih luas. Penelitian ini berfokus pada kontribusi analisis karakter dalam menangkap perspektif tematik The Great Gatsby yang kuat dan dampak jangka panjang terhadap masyarakat saat ini. Sesuai dengan tema Impian Amerika dalam konteks sejarah Amerika Serikat pada tahun 1920-an, skripsi ini mengeksplorasi makna yang lebih dalam dan seringkali menyentuh tema kekayaan, cinta, identitas, dan kekecewaan. Selain itu, skripsi ini menempatkan konteks pada budaya Era Jazz, tidak hanya menampilkan kisah Gatsby, namun juga mengungkap lingkungan budaya yang lebih luas pada era tersebut dan dilema keberadaan era tersebut. Di satu sisi, penelitian ini menambah basis pengetahuan terkini tentang The Great Gatsby dengan memberikan pemahaman baru tentang salah satu karakter paling berkesan dalam sastra Amerika dan hubungannya dengan kanon sastra. Mengungkap landasan psikologis, sosial, dan sejarah psikologi tokoh-tokoh dalam The Great Gatsby menjadi tujuan utama karya sastra ini. Melalui analisis multidimensi karakter, artikel ini menyajikan pemahaman yang lebih baik tentang kondisi manusia dan dampak luas dari novel Fitzgerald. Scott Fitzgerald's literary masterpiece, "The Great Gatsby," which will major on the mysterious character, Jay Gatsby. The goal of the research is to uncover the intricacies of Gatsby through the literary analysis techniques and psychological perspectives, including Freudian, Jungian, and existentialist theories along with the study of his personality, reasons and relationships in the story. The study also unveils the history, charisma, and interactions depicted by the person Gatsby and other characters such as Daisy Buchanan, Nick Carraway, and Tom Buchanan. The paper suggests the intricacies of his character and the thematic implications of the novel on a broader scale. The investigation focuses on the role of character analysis as a contributor to the catching of the intense thematic perspective as well as lasting relevance of "The Great Gatsby" of today society. In line with the theme of the American Dream from the historical perspective of 1920s US, the paper explores deeper meanings and often touching on themes of wealth, love, identity, and disillusionment. Besides, the thesis is contextualized in the culture of Jazz Age where it not only illustrates the story of Gatsby but also reveals the existence of the broader cultural milieu of the era as well as the dilemma of existence if the time being. On the one hand, this inquiry also increases the current knowledge-base on "The Great Gatsby" by bringing new understandings regarding one of the most memorable characters in American literature and his connection with the literary canon. The enlightening of psychological, social and historical underpinnings of character psychology in "The Great Gatsby" is the principal objective of this work of literature. It does this with a multidimensional approach to the analysis of the characters, presenting a better understanding of the human condition and the universal influence of Fitzgerald's novel.
