The rapid economic development has improved China's reputation on the international stage, and China's language, literature and traditional culture have also had a lasting impact on the world. In recent years, China's TV drama production capacity has been continuously improved, creating huge economic and cultural value. The Untamed, adapted from Mo Xiang Tong Xiu's novel The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, is a "phenomenal" work produced under this trend, and has achieved great success in the transition from online literature to film and television texts. The Untamed was very popular after it was broadcast on Tencent Video's overseas platform WeTV, especially in Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. Following the popularity of The Untamed was its original novel The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, and Indonesian pop culture has since opened the door to Chinese online novels. This paper uses a case analysis method to study the ancient costume fairy tale drama The Untamed. From the success of the online novel The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation to the overseas success of the ancient costume fairy tale drama The Untamed, cross-media communication reflects huge economic value. Through the cross-cultural analysis of The Untamed, we can have a deeper understanding of the influence of the popularity of Xianxia dramas in Indonesia as a new genre with wide acclaim and economic value,education, and Indonesian literature and culture. At the same time, the successful strategies of adapting online film and television dramas are summarized and analyzed, providing thoughts for expanding the overseas influence of Chinese traditional culture and enhancing the soft power of Chinese culture.
