Abstract (Abstrak)

Background. The use of cosmetics has become an important part of everyday life, especially among women. However, not all cosmetics products circulating in the market are safe to use, because some contain harmful materials such as mercury, hydrocuin, dye, parabening, and retinoic acid that can harm skin health. Low levels of knowledge and public awareness, especially among students, against hazardous materials contained in cosmetics require special attention. Purpose. This study aims to determine the level of knowledge and consciousness of the students of the Hospital for Hasanuddin University of Hasanuddin forces 2023 against the raw materials of dangerous cosmetics on skin health. Method. Research using descriptive observational design with quantitative approach. The sample consists of 142 selected students using Simple Random Sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires that include aspects of knowledge and consciousness of respondents. Results. The results showed that 83.1% of respondents had a good level of knowledge, 16.9% enough, and nothing has less knowledge. Meanwhile, the level of consciousness shows 84.5% of respondents in the category either, 8.5% enough, and 7% less. These findings indicate that the majority of colleges have good knowledge and awareness of the impact of dangerous cosmetic materials, although there is still space for increased in a small percentage of respondents.
