Abstract (Abstrak)

Background. The national cocoa production has declined every year. One of the limiting factors is the attack of the main pests Conopomorpha cramerella and Helopeltis spp., with attack severity of 40–72.8% and 33–55%. Conogethes punctiferalis (yellow peach moth) has been reported to attacked cocoa plantations in South Karnataka, South India, with an attack severity of 30–40%. C. punctiferalis has the potential to cause a severe infestation with an increase in its population. Aim. This research aims to evaluate the presence of C. punctiferalis and other insects that invest in a pod on eight cocoa clones, as well as their populations and roles. Method. The samples used were symptomatic cocoa pods from several clones, including M04, M01, S1, S2, THR, Lokal GTB, Local 1, and Local 2. The pod was placed in a storage container, and the presence of insects was observed every day for 40 days. Result. C. punctiferalis was found in clones M04, S1, and Local 1. Other insects found included C. cramerella, Nemapogon granella, Bradysia impatiens, Araecerus fasciculatus, and four unidentified species. 56% of these insects acted as pests and 44% were unknown. The insect diversity index is classified as medium (1.391). The uniformity index is classified as high (0.633). The dominance index is low (0.399). Conclusion. The insect C. punctiferalis, as well as several other insects, are found on symptomatic cocoa pods, and most act as pests.
