Abstract (Abstrak)

This study aims to analyze the oppression experienced by the main character in Alice Walker's The Color Purple. The aims of this study are to find out the forms of oppression faced by the main character in Alice Walker's The Color Purple, and to analyze how the main character in Alice Walker's The Color Purple overcomes oppression. The research method used in this research is qualitative. The data analysis technique used in this study is based on the structuralism approach. The data used is Alice Walker's The Color Purple, published in 1982. The results of this study indicate that the main character, who is a woman, gets oppression from the man who is her closest person. The main character gets oppression by her stepfather, husband, and stepson. The main character is forced to obey all the wishes of the men around her, and she must endure the torture in silence. However, the female protagonist, who initially only silently accepted the oppression, gradually grew a sense of resistance. In the end, the main female character managed to fight back and start her new life free from oppression.
