Abstract (Abstrak)
S.frugiperda is one of the dangerous invasive pests when it attacks on corn, can migrate with the ability to fly as far as 100 km, caused damage to corn plant in the vegetative phase. To support the verification of S.frugiperda, generally in South Sulawesi. The S. frugiperda larvae was identified based on morphological characters while information on the genetic diversity of S. frugiperda is still very limited. This study aims to identify the strain of S.frugiperda, determine the distribution of the strain S.frugiperda, and determine its damage to maize in three climate zones in South Sulawesi. This research was conducted at the Research Laboratory, Faculty of Public Health, Hasanuddin University, Makassar and land acquisition for corn in Takalar, Wajo, and Luwu Regencies started from October 2022 to January 2023. This research was conducted using 2 research stages, (1 ) survey of attack areas of S.frugiperda larvae in Takalar, Wajo, and Luwu Regencies (2) identification molecular to determind S. frugiperda strains was carried out in the laboratory. The results showed that all larvae collected from Takalar, Wajo and Luwu districts showed morphological characteristics and genetic identity and had 99.24% per ident with the isolate from China (MN075830.1) and had a evolutionary relationship with the R-Strain haplotype 2. There were differences in the level of damage to S. frugiperda in the three climate zones of the South Sulawesi region. The Luwu area had the highest attack rate and population with an attack intensity 20,8 % – 65,2 % and a total population of 0.166 individuals per clump, while the lowest attack was in the Wajo area with an attack intensity 21,2 %- 41,6% and the lowest population number in Takalar Regency with 0.016 individuals/clump.
