Abstract (Abstrak)
Introduction The development of the food and beverage industry has increased rapidly.
The rapid development of the culinary industry, accompanied by numerous benefits, causes people's food choice motives to evolve. In adolescence, adequate nutritional intake is needed for the growth process. Meanwhile, food choice has big impact to nutritional intake. If an error occurs in the food choice motives, it will have a negative impact on the body and health.
This study aims to describe the overview of food choice motives and nutrition status of adolescents Methods This research was conducted on 164 students of Senior High School 16 Makassar. Adolescents’ food choice motives were measured by using Food Choice Questionnaire (FCQ) and nutritional status data were obtained by using anthropometric
measurements, as well as descriptive analysis using SPSS and Microsoft Excel, Results of the 164 students, the primary food choice motives in order is Health (x̄; 3.231), followed by Price (x̄; 3.182), Sensory Appeal (x̄; 3.170), and Convenience’ (x̄; 3.076) and there were 12 students who are identified thinness (7.3%) and 41 student are identified overweight and obese (25%), Conclusion The major of food choice motives is Health, and the nutrition status is dominated by Normal, through the result of this research, it is suggested to the school stakeholder to encourage the provision and improvement of healthy canteens in the school area to support the student's nutrition status and dietary behavior, especially the food choice motives of the
student.
