Abstract (Abstrak)
Predicting upwelling phenomenon for detecting potential fisheries area become important topic recently.
Utilization of calibrated model for upwelling prediction such as INDESO gives benefit for result approaching the actual circumstances. Aim of this study is to estimate upwelling areas in Flores Sea using data assimilation of remote sensing and modelling result. This study used sea surface temperature, chlorophyll-a data from level 3 of Modis image for three years (2014-2016) and INDESO model data for sea surface temperature, sea surface height, and chlorophyll-a. The upwelling was indicated by declining
of sea surface temperature, sea surface height and increasing of chlorophyll-a. Verification was conducted
by comparing model result with recorded MODIS satellite image. The result showed that area of southern Makassar Strait occurrence phenomenon upwelling every year starting on May. The strongest upwelling occurs in 2015 was covering more or less area of ± 23.000 km2.
