Abstract (Abstrak)
Background: Meningiomas are tumors of the central nervous system that grow slowly and generally benign (92%). World Health Organization (WHO) 2016 classifies meningiomas into three grades based on histopathological criteria. However, there are still limitations in predicting tumor cell proliferation and recurrence rate in this era. Therefore, an immunohistochemical examination is needed, in our study, Ki67 was used. Methods: This study is an observational analysis of 60 meningioma samples collected from January 2019 – May 2022. Ki67 expression analysis conducted at the Histopathology Department, Universitas Hasanuddin Hospital, Makassar. Results: From the 60 samples studied, there were grade I (39 samples), grade II (14 samples), and grade III (7 samples). In terms of gender, there are more women than men (2,5:1). Age range from 10 – 76 years (mean 47.3 years). Most tumor locations are in the convexity of 60%. Ki67 expression was positive in all grades II and III samples, with the highest in anaplastic meningioma (Ki67 = 50%). Statistically, there was a significant increase in Ki67 expression on the meningioma grade (p = 0.000). Major histopathological features, brain invasion proved superior to mitosis criteria (p = 0.000 and correlation coefficient 0.651). Minor histopathological features, hypercellularity appeared to be more dominant than prominent nucleus and spontaneous necrosis (p = 0.000 and correlation coefficient 0.693). Conclusion: Ki67 expression increased according to the meningioma grade. Ki67 tends to be positive and significant if the histopathological features of brain invasion is detected in the sample.
