Abstract (Abstrak)
Background: Vascular ulcers often occur due to chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), peripheral arterial occlusive disease, or combined vascular damage, and are called mixed ulcers. The number of injuries continues to increase every year so that to prevent further injuries, early identification and treatment of VLU is very important. The gold standard for VLU treatment is lower extremity compression, usually performed on an outpatient basis. Ideally, compression begins as soon as the VLU is identified
The purpose aim of this case study was to determine the effectiveness of wound healing using compression dressings in the treatment of venous leg ulcers at the Makassar ETN Center wound care clinic.
The method used in the case study was a retrospective at the ETN Center care clinic in Makassar city. The process of treating and evaluating wound healing was carried out from December 9, 2022, to December 13, 2022. The type of dressing used is a two-layer compression dressing. Initial measurements were carried out in the 1st treatment in the first week to assess the state of the wound. While the final measurement was carried out at the 3rd meeting of the 7th week to assess wound healing during treatment using a two-layer compression dressing
Results: The patient's wound condition after six treatments for four weeks using two-layer compression dressings showed good and positive progress, this was shown in the BJWAT score at the start of the assessment which was 34 and became 23 in the seventh week of treatment
Conclusion: The application of compression dressings using the two-layer compression dressing technique is effective in healing leg venous ulcers showing more effective results in the treatment of venous leg ulcer healing in wound care homes
