Abstract (Abstrak)

Objective: Breast cancer ranks first as the leading cause of female mortality, with an estimated 100,000 person each year. One of the pathogenesis ways of breast cancer is the process of angiogenesis that is characterized by overexpression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).
Methods: Thisresearch was conducted involving 42 patients with breast cancer who had no history of other illnesses. In this study, the serum is used to determine blood levels of VEGF in a quantitative and in-depth interview.
Result: The results of the examination of serum VEGF ELISA lowest value obtained was 34.1 pg/ml while the highest value of 3028.2 pg/ml. Of the 42 samples studied showed that the value of serum VEGF cut of point just below the early breast cancer as much as 11.9% and 33.3% whereas locally advanced breast cancer (LABC) cut of point just above the LABC and metastatic breast cancer respectively 59.5% and 28.6% with p <0.001. For histopathological grading, showed that serum VEGF for value above cut off point only at moderate grade high as 19% and as much as 35.7% while the value of serum VEGF undercut of the point on a low grade as much as 21.4%, moderate 16.7% and a high of 7.1%, p <0.001. Also found that patients with estrogen receptor-positive amounted to 57.2% with VEGF values above and below cut off point respectively of 28.
Conclusion: There is a correlation between VEGF-A serum values and clinical breast cancer stage and histopathologic grading breast cancer patients, but there is no correlation between VEGF-A serum values and breast cancer estrogen receptor status.
