Abstract (Abstrak)

ABSTRACT

Competence, organizational commitment, work motivation, and performance of employees at the Office of the Marine and Fisheries Service of South Sulawesi Province are very important to be considered in an effort to achieve the goals of the organization.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the direct influence of competence on organizational commitment, work motivation and employee performance of the Department of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of South Sulawesi Province, either directly or indirectly.
The type of research used is a quantitative research method with data collection using questionnaires. This research was conducted using a survey approach and distributing questionnaires to analyze the facts and data that support the information needed to support the research discussion. In this study, it is expected to know the effect of competence on performance through organizational commitment and work motivation, so that it will explain the causal relationship between the variables through hypothesis testing using SPSS and SmartPLS programs.
The results showed that partially, competence had a positive and significant effect on organizational commitment, work motivation and employee performance. Furthermore, organizational commitment has no significant effect on employee performance, while work motivation has a positive and significant impact on employee performance. As for the indirect effect, it shows that organizational commitment has no significant effect when used as a mediating variable, the effect of competence on performance, while motivation is able to show a positive and significant effect when used as a mediating variable.
The conclusion of this study is that when an employee's competence is continuously improved, it will have implications for maintaining organizational commitment, work motivation and performance in employees. However, in this study organizational commitment has not shown an effect on efforts to improve employee performance.
