Abstract (Abstrak)

Disturbed infiltration in an area will affect the hydrological cycle that occurs so that the natural balance is not fulfilled. The infiltration process is very important in the hydrological cycle to determine the amount of rainwater that percolates and enters the soil directly. High infiltration rates can not only increase the amount of water stored in the soil but can also reduce the potential for erosion and flooding. This study aims to determine the infiltration rate in red jabon stands, the relationship between ground cover plants and infiltration rates in red jabon stands, and the effect of ground cover plant density on the infiltration rate at the Forest Plant Germination Center (BPTH) in Gowa Regency. This research was carried out by making 4 observation plots in red jabon stands and measuring infiltration 3 times and matching the percentage of undergrowth with the paine method. The results showed that the highest infiltration rate was found in plot 1, which was 321.46 mm/hour (very fast) while the lowest infiltration rate was found in plot 4, which was 207.62 mm/hour (fast). This is because the infiltration rate is influenced by the state of the vegetation, topography and physical properties of the soil. The results of statistical analysis also showed a very weak correlation of 11.3% against cover crops with infiltration rates
