Abstract (Abstrak)
RAHMANIAH. 2026. Patriarchal Elements in My Place by Sally Morgan. (Supervised by Herawaty and Andi Inayah). This study aims to examine the patriarchal elements experienced by several characters in Sally Morgan's My Place. It also investigates the impacts of these patriarchal elements on the characters' lives. This study employs a structuralist approach and Sylvia Walby's theory of patriarchy. The structuralist approach is used to analyze the intrinsic elements of the novel, including characterization, plot, setting, and theme. Meanwhile, Walby's theory provides the framework for identifying and interpreting the major manifestations of patriarchy represented in the novel. These include sexual and domestic violence, the suppression of the characters' rights to express their opinions and exercise bodily autonomy, the silencing of personal and cultural identity across generations, as well as subordination and forced labor.
