Abstract (Abstrak)
ABSTRACT Aulia, Nurul Fajri Putri. Illocutionary Acts Analysis of the Main Character of London Love Story Movie (Supervised by Harlinah Sahib and Sukmawaty) The study is conducted to: (1) to found out the types of illocutionary acts performed by the main character in London Love Story movie, and (2) to analyze the contextual meaning of the utterances produced by the main character. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The source of the data was the language uttered by the main character in the utterances used under illocutionary acts. Methods: Data were obtained through downloading, watching the movie over and over again, picking relevant speech acts made by the main character, coding them according to Searle's (1979) classification of illocutionary acts and their context, and all of that led to tabulating the results. Based on the analysis, the results show 97 types of illocutionary acts found in the main character utterances. The large majority is directive act (41 data), followed by representatives (38 data), expressives (12 data), and commissives (6 data), with no declaratives. These results suggest that the main character primarily uses directive acts to carry out interactions and regulating relationships in the film. Keywords: Illocutionary Acts, London Love Story Movie, Pragmatics, Main Character.
