Abstract (Abstrak)
Background. Tourist ships have a high potential risk of fire due to the combination of heat sources, flammable materials, and electrical installations in various operational areas. Fires at the early stage (incipient fire) that are not handled quickly can develop into major fires that endanger passengers, crew members, and ship assets. Objective. This study aims to analyze the areas and rooms with potential fire hazards and to evaluate the fire prevention system on tourist ships through the implementation of a Smart Fire Extinguisher as an automatic early fire suppression system, including its type, quantity, and placement. Methods. The research method used is Fire Risk Assessment with a probability and consequence assessment approach to determine the level of fire risk in each room and area of the ship. Furthermore, an analysis of fire source classification was carried out to determine the appropriate type, quantity, and placement of Smart Fire Extinguishers based on the level of risk and room characteristics. Results .The results show that areas with Very High and High fire risk levels are the gas room, galley, engine room, and fuel tank room. Areas with Medium fire risk levels include the anchor chain/storage room, captain’s room, and lounge/bar, while Low fire risk areas include crew cabins and guest cabins. Based on the analysis, a total of 38 Smart Fire Extinguishers are required, consisting of 21 units of SM-05 placed on the navigation deck (4 units), main deck (2 units), and lower deck (15 units); 3 units of SM-08 placed on the main deck (1 unit) and lower deck (2 units); 4 units of SM-10 placed on the lower deck; and 7 units of SM-40 placed on the lower deck (1 unit) and orlop deck (6 units) .Conclusion. This study is expected to become a reference for the planning and development of fire safety systems on tourist ships, especially in the implementation of automatic fire suppression technology based on fire risk levels.
