Abstract (Abstrak)

ABSTRACT SRI UMMI KALSUM DJAI MANDAR. Correlation Between Interleukin-6 Levels and Lipoprotein-Associated Phospholipase A2 in Acute Myocardial Infarction (guided by dr. Amaliyah T Lopa, M.Kes, Sp.PK(K) and Dr. dr. Nurahmi, M.Kes, Sp.PK(K) Backgrounds: Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) is a part of the Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) spectrum, a condition characterized by reduced blood flow to the heart. Inflammation plays a key role in the pathogenesis of AMI, with biomarkers such as Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and Lipoprotein-Associated Phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) being involved. However, their interrelationship is not yet fully established. Aims: To analyze the correlation between IL-6 and Lp-PLA2 levels in patients with acute myocardial infarction. Methods: This study applied a cross-sectional design involving ACS patients admitted to Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital, Makassar. Serum IL-6 and Lp-PLA2 levels were measured using Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) at Hasanuddin University Medical-Research Center. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test for group comparisons and Spearman’s rho for correlation. Results: A total of 82 patients were included, consisting of 55 with STEMI and 27 with NSTEMI. No significant differences were found in IL-6 (p=0.980) or Lp-PLA2 levels (p=0.921) between the two groups. Correlation analysis revealed no significant association between IL-6 and Lp-PLA2 levels in ACS (r=0.162; p=0.146). Conclusions: There is no significant correlation between IL-6 and Lp-PLA2 levels in acute myocardial infarction. The observed association was very weak and positive.
