Abstract (Abstrak)

Health monitoring of betutu fish (Oxyeleotris marmorata) as an export commodity is conducted routinely at the South Sulawesi Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Center to ensure the quality and health of the fish against disease threats, including ectoparasites. This study aimed to identify the presence of Oodinium sp. in betutu fish samples through monitoring activities. Observations were conducted by collecting gill samples, followed by macroscopic examination to observe physical changes, as well as microscopic examination using 40× magnification to detect the presence of parasites. The examination results showed color changes in the gills, and microscopic analysis identified an infestation of Oodinium sp. in the trophont stage. This infestation has the potential to cause physiological disturbances such as increased respiratory rate, decreased appetite, and damage to the gill tissue of the fish. Based on these results, it can be concluded that Oodinium sp. is an ectoparasite infesting betutu fish in the examined samples; therefore, routine monitoring and early detection are necessary to maintain the quality of export fish and prevent economic losses resulting from further infection.
