Abstract (Abstrak)

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia and is strongly associated with an increased risk of macrovascular complications, including acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) serves as a long-term glycemic control parameter, and elevated levels are linked to cardiovascular complications and poor prognosis. This study aimed to describe the HbA1c levels of T2DM patients with ACS complications at the Hasanuddin University Teaching Hospital during the period of January–June 2024. A descriptive retrospective method was applied using medical record data of patients who met the inclusion criteria. The results showed that out of 38 patients, 29 patients (76.3%) had HbA1c levels ≥ 7%, while 9 patients (23.7%) had HbA1c levels < 7%. The majority of patients were female (60.5%), and the largest proportion of uncontrolled HbA1c was found in the 58–67 age group (34.2%). Most patients were hospitalized for 7–14 days (57.9%), particularly those with elevated HbA1c levels. Clinical improvement was observed in 97.4% of patients, while one patient (2.6%) with HbA1c ≥ 7% died. In conclusion, the majority of T2DM patients with ACS complications had HbA1c levels ≥ 7%, indicating poor glycemic control that contributes to cardiovascular risk, longer hospitalization, and adverse clinical outcomes. These findings emphasize the importance of optimal HbA1c control to prevent complications and improve the prognosis of T2DM patients.
