Abstract (Abstrak)

ABSTRACT Siti Aisyah Hamzah (E061221110). “Bangladesh responses on US-China Tariff War”, Supervised by Drs. H.M. Imran Hanafi, M.A., M.Ec., as the lecturer supervisor at International Relations Department, Faculty of Social and Political Science, Hasanuddin University. The tariff war between the United States and China has influenced global trade dynamics and has had indirect impacts on developing countries, including Bangladesh. This study aims to analyze the impact of the US–China tariff war on Bangladesh's Ready-Made Garments (RMG) sector and examine the Bangladeshi government's policy responses to this situation. This study uses a qualitative approach utilizing international trade data, policy documents, and interviews with Bangladeshi diplomatic representatives. The analysis is conducted using Complex Interdependence Theory to explain the pattern of dependency and structural vulnerability of Bangladesh, which is dependent on the United States export market and raw material supplies from China, and Economic Security Theory to examine the government's role in maintaining national economic stability. The results show that the US–China tariff war provides limited opportunities for Bangladesh to expand exports, but does not provide significant economic benefits due to asymmetric interdependence and supply chain dependency. The Bangladeshi government responds to this situation through tariff negotiation policies, providing economic incentives, diversifying export markets, increasing industrial capacity, and strengthening trade cooperation. In general, these policy responses are quite effective in maintaining the stability of the RMG sector in the short term, but long-term structural challenges remain. Keywords: Tariff war, Bangladesh, Ready-Made Garments, asymmetric interdependence, economic security.
