Kompleksitas Kepribadian Karakter Utama Terpilih dalam Novel The Railway Children karya Edith Nesbit = Complexity of the Selected Main Character’s in Nesbit’s The Railway Children

Personality is a pattern of behavior and the way individuals respond to their environment, influenced by social factors such as family. When applied to literary works, personality can be seen in the characters. This study analyzes the main character, Roberta (Bobbie), in the family in the novel The Railway Children. This focuses on the firstborn child as a complex character because they occupy a unique position within the family structure, which significantly influences the development of their personality and behavior. The research issue is to examine the personality of the firstborn child within the family. Therefore, in analyzing this, the writer uses Blair's theory of birth order with a structuralist approach. The research method used by the writer is descriptive qualitative. The results of this study indicate that Roberta possesses seven complex characteristics as the firstborn child. Seven characteristics are identified in Roberta (Bobbie), such as have a strong desire to gain the approval of others, respectful of existing rules and regulations, taking a leadership position, tend to be smart, organized and responsible, nurturing and caring, and more likely than others to feel stressed and to seek psychological help.
