Abstract (Abstrak)

Sayyidah Azzahra. The Influence of Using Authentic Materials on Enhancing Students Learning Motivation (A Study at SD Inpres Unggulan Puri Taman Sari) (supervised by Abidin and Sitti Sahraeny) Background. Motivation in English learning at primary level is very important. However, traditional teaching methods cannot always maintain students' motivation. Aim. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using authentic materials on the English learning motivation of fifth grade students of SD Inpres Unggulan Puri Taman Sari. Method. The research method used was quantitative; using pre-test, treatment (learning by using brochures, calendars, and birthday invitation cards), post-test, and questionnaire. The research sample was fifth grade students totaling 28 students. Results. The results showed that the use of authentic materials increased students' learning motivation. Students were more attentive, excited, and participated more during the three treatment sessions. Based on the pre-test and post-test results, the number of students at the “Good” and “Very Good” levels increased from 10.71% to 96.43%, and there were no students at the low level. The average N-Gain of 0.7976 indicates that the use of authentic materials is highly efficient. In addition, from the questionnaire results, it is known that most students have positive feelings when using authentic materials in learning, including interest, enjoyment, focus, confidence, and learning preferences. Conclusion. Authentic materials are not only able to increase students’ learning motivation, but also has a chance to improve their learning outcomes.
