Abstract (Abstrak)
NURUL HIKMAH ASMAWANTI. The Impact of English Fairy Tales in Youtube on Improving Vocabulary Mastery of Efl Students at Smpn 1 Barru (supervised by Nasmilah and Abidin Pammu) This study investigates the effectiveness of utilizing English fairy tale videos from the English Fairy Tales YouTube channel to improve vocabulary mastery among eighth-grade EFL students at SMPN 1 Barru. The research adopted a pre-experimental design, specifically a one-group pretest- posttest method, involving 31 students. Vocabulary knowledge was measured using the Vocabulary Knowledge Scale (VKS) before and after the intervention. The intervention included several sessions where students watched fairy tale videos and participated in vocabulary-focused activities, such as discussions, exercises, and story retelling tasks. The findings revealed a significant increase in vocabulary mastery, with the average score rising from 56.55 in the pretest to 80.10 in the posttest (p=0.000). Additionally, students responded positively to the method, with 87.10% feeling comfortable and 96.77% finding it engaging. Teachers also noted that the videos effectively enhanced vocabulary comprehension and retention. These results indicate that incorporating YouTube fairy tale videos into EFL teaching is a highly effective and engaging approach to support students’ vocabulary development.
