Abstract (Abstrak)
Literature often reflects real life, including people’s experiences, thoughts, and the culture around them. One of the important topics in literature is femininity, which talks about the way women are seen and how they behave in society. In the past, women were often shown as weak, quiet, or emotional. But today, femininity is more than that. It can show strength, leadership, and independence. InThe Phantom of the Opera, femininity can be seen through the actions and character of the women in the story. This research aims to find out what traits of femininity are shown in The Phantom of the Opera and how the female characters show the power of femininity in the story. Thisstudy uses a qualitative descriptive method. The main source of this thesis is the novelThe Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux. The research also uses journals andarticles to support the analysis. The analysis is done using a structuralism approach andRosemarie Tong’s theory of femininity. The research shows that femininity in the novelis not only about being gentle or emotional. It also shows power through care, empathy, courage, and decision-making. Femininity in this story is not a weakness, but a form ofquiet strength that helps the characters survive in a male-dominated world. The studyconcludes that femininity can be powerful and meaningful in literature. Femalecharacters can show strength in their own way, even without fighting or shouting.
