Abstract (Abstrak)
E.M. Forster’s A Passage to India explores the experiences of Dr. Aziz, a Muslim Indian doctor who encounters various internal and external conflicts during the period of British colonial rule. This study aims to examine how conflict is portrayed through the character of Dr. Aziz and how he resolves internal and external conflicts in his pursuit of justice throughout the story. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, this research applies a structuralism approach to analyze the structure of conflicts and their resolutions. The results show that Dr. Aziz resolves his conflicts through the resolution of self-conflict in relation to the British, the resolution of the conflict of pride and dignity due to false accusation, the resolution of conflict with Adela Quested, and the resolution of conflict in his friendship with Mr. Fielding. This study conclude that justice in A Passage to India is not limited to courtroom decisions but is reflected through Dr. Aziz’s journey of restoring self-respect and understanding his identity. The novel shows that in the face of colonial injustice, true justice grows from within, through personal strength and the courage to stay true to oneself.
