Abstract (Abstrak)

This research explores the effectiveness of Focus Group Discussion (FGD) in enhancing students' English language learning at SMA Negeri 10 Makassar. The study aims to investigate how students collaborate, contribute ideas, and develop their language skills through FGD activities. Using a qualitative research design, data were collected through observations and semi-structured interviews with 15 eleventh-grade students during two FGD sessions. Thematic analysis revealed three major constructs: Student Active Learning (SAL), Student Cognitive Constructs (SCC), and English Language Speaking (ELS). Students demonstrated active participation through communication, collaboration, and idea generation. FGD activities supported the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as the enhancement of vocabulary acquisition. However, many students faced challenges in fluently speaking English, particularly in pronunciation and confidence, which were attributed to limited prior exposure and practice.
