Abstract (Abstrak)

Background. Vanamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) farming using a supra-intensive system allows for increased productivity through the application of high stocking densities; however, the high intensity of farming increases the accumulation of organic matter and nitrogen compounds in the rearing medium, which can degrade water quality. Therefore, monitoring water quality parameters particularly Total Ammonia Nitrogen (TAN) and Total Organic Matter (TOM) is a critical aspect of supporting aquaculture productivity. Purpose. This study aims to analyze the effect of different stocking densities of vannamei shrimp on water quality particularly nitrogen levels and Total Organic Matter (TOM) and to analyze the effect of different stocking densities on the productivity rate of (Litopenaeus vannamei) in a supra-intensive aquaculture system, as measured by Average Daily Growth (ADG) and Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR). Method. This study used a completely randomized design with different stocking densities: low density (A) 350 shrimp/m, medium density (B) 500 shrimp/m, and high density (C) 700 shrimp/m. Analysis of water quality and productivity rates was performed using a one-way ANOVA, followed by a post-hoc Tukey’s HSD test (P < 0.05). Results. The TAN values for low density (A) (350 shrimp/m) were 0.23±0.098 and for high density (C) (700 shrimp/m) 1.5±0.438 differed significantly; however, there was no significant difference between the low density (350 shrimp/m) and the medium density (B) (500 shrimp/m) at 0.78±0.491, nor between the medium density (500 shrimp/m) and the high density (700 shrimp/m). Meanwhile, TOM differed significantly across all groups: low density (350 shrimp/m) 64.12 ± 0.29, medium density (500 shrimp/m) 88.36 ± 4.687, and high density (700 shrimp/m) 115.38 ± 0.940. The ADG value for low density (350 shrimp/m), 0.25 ± 0.12, differed significantly from that of medium density (500 shrimp/m), 0.18 ± 0.025, and high density (700 shrimp/m), 0.18 ± 0.031. Meanwhile, the effect of stocking density on FCR also showed that the low density (350 shrimp/m) 1.21 ± 0.142 differed significantly from the medium density (500 shrimp/m) 1.80 ± 0.13 and the high density (700 shrimp/m) 1.89 ± 0.135. Conclusion. A low density super-intensive pond system results in better water quality, as indicated by lower TAN and TOM levels, and yields higher productivity, as evidenced by higher ADG and lower FCR, compared to systems with medium and high densities.
