Abstract (Abstrak)

ABSTRACT Merrysa Sitoresmi. Evaluation of Intracoronal Depth Variation on Fracture Resistance of Endocrown Restorations Manufactured with 3D Printing Technology: An In Vitro Study (Supervised by Nurhayaty Natsir and Hafsah Katu) Background: Three dimensional (3D) printing is increasingly adopted for definitive restorations, but the optimal intracoronal depth for 3D printed endocrowns remains unclear, limiting evidence based clinical application. This study was therefore conducted to explore the performance of 3D printing and guide future definitive research. Objectives: This study aimed to assess the fracture resistance of 3D printed definitive endocrowns at intracoronal depths of 2, 3, and 5 mm and to identify the optimal depth for 3D printed restorations. Materials and Methods: Forty two endocrowns (n=7/group) were fabricated using a 3D printed resin (ODS) or a conventional semi-direct composite (Filtek P60) on PEEK dies with depths of 2, 3, and 5 mm. Fracture resistance was tested using a universal testing machine (0.5 mm/min, 2.5 mm ball). Failure modes were classified (Burke’s criteria). Data were analyzed using two way ANOVA, Tukey’s post hoc, and Weibull analysis. Result: Two way ANOVA revealed significant main effects of material (F(1,36) = 62.722, p<0.001), depth (F(2,36) = 4.787, p=0.014), and their interaction (F(2,36) = 21.939, p<0.001). Among all groups, the 3D-printed specimens with depth 3 mm showed the highest fracture resistance across all the groups (998.83 ± 96.42 N), which was substantially higher than the values of the 2 mm and 5 mm groups (p = 0.001). Sensitivity power analysis showed a minimum detectable effect size (Cohen’s f) of 0.50, and the measured effect size for depth (f=0.516) was over this threshold. The 3D printed 3 mm group also demonstrated superior reliability (Weibull modulus m=13.01) and a favorable failure mode (71.4% Class I, minimal damage). Conclusion: Within study limitations, a 3 mm intracoronal depth optimizes fracture resistance and reliability of 3D printed definitive endocrowns. These results indicate that 3D printing is a promising alternative, and further confirmation is required.
