Pandangan Emmanuel Macron Terhadap Kasus Samuel Paty: Analisis Wacana = Emmanuel Macron's views On the Case of Samuel Paty: Discourse Analysis

Background. Political speeches play a significant role as a medium for communicating ideology and promoting national values. Emmanuel Macron’s speech, Discours du Président de la République lors de l'hommage national à la mémoire de Samuel Paty, was selected for this study because it not only pays tribute to Samuel Paty but also reaffirms the fundamental values of the French Republic Objective. To describe the structure of the speech text and analyze its meaning and context using Teun A. Van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis model. Theory. This study employs Teun A. Van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) model, which examines discourse through three dimensions: text analysis (macrostructure, superstructure, and microstructure), social cognition, and social context, in order to reveal the relationship between language, ideology, and power practices. Methods. descriptive qualitative research design was employed, using Emmanuel Macron’s speech as the primary data source. The data were analyzed based on Van Dijk’s three analytical dimensions: textual analysis, social cognition, and social analysis. Results and Conclusions. The findings reveal that the speech is systematically organized through macrostructure, superstructure, and microstructure, emphasizing the commemoration of Samuel Paty as a symbol of freedom of expression, education, secularism (laïcité), and the core values of the French Republic. From the perspective of social cognition, Macron constructs a shared national identity while clearly distinguishing Islam as a religion from the ideology of radicalism. Furthermore, the social analysis demonstrates that the speech functions as a political instrument for strengthening national unity and legitimizing government policies aimed at combating radicalism. In conclusion, Emmanuel Macron’s speech represents a strategic act of political communication that reinforces the fundamental values of the French Republic while promoting national ideology, social cohesion, and the state's commitment to safeguarding freedom of expression.
