Figurative language refers to expressions that convey meanings beyond their literal. Figurative language frequently appears throughout Christian religious movies, although due to the complexity of its meaning, many messages contained within figurative language remain unrevealed and misunderstood by the audience, leading to misinterpretation. Aim. This study aims to identify the types of figurative language employed by the main character in the The Last Supper (2025) movie and to interpret the semantic meanings conveyed by the main character’s dialogue in the movie. Methods. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. The data were drawn from the main character's dialogue in the movie and analyzed through Perrine's figurative language theory as revised by Arp and Johnson (2018). Results. The researchers found 65 utterances were identified and classified into nine categories of figurative language. Metaphor was the most frequently occurring type with 43 instances, followed by metonymy (5), simile (4), paradox (4), apostrophe (3), synecdoche (2), irony (2), personification (1), and overstatement (1). The findings indicate that metaphorical expression constitutes the primary mode while other figurative language add nuance and emotional through the main character that conveys theological concepts in religious teachings. The results shows the literal semantic meaning of these utterances are commonplace. Yet, figuratively, these utterances reflect the identity of Christ’s followers and the concept of his ministry through the new covenant in the Last Supper that main character prior to his redemptive work. Conclusions. Based on these findings, the main character in the Last Supper movie frequently uses figurative language in his teachings, referring to everyday people tradition in that period to represents theological messages, the religious meaning of which is not well known to the modern audience. By examining the speech of the main character, the findings of this study contributes to clarifying complex religious meanings that are commonly misunderstood in Christian movies.
