Abstract (Abstrak)

This study explores the socio-psychological dimensions of love in Nicholas Sparks’ The Notebook through Erich Fromm’s Theory of Mature Love, focusing on the four essential aspects of true love: care, responsibility, respect, and knowledge. Using a qualitative descriptive approach with textual analysis, the research examines how these four dimensions are integrated into the narrative through the relationship between Noah Calhoun and Allie Nelson. The findings reveal that The Notebook portrays love not merely as romantic feeling but as a mature and ethical practice sustained by conscious commitment and emotional discipline. Through Noah’s consistent actions, the novel illustrates care as devotion, responsibility as moral commitment, respect as recognition of autonomy, and knowledge as deep emotional understanding. Additionally, the study demonstrates that these dimensions of mature love reflect broader sociological values in American society, including perseverance, freedom, equality, and compassion. By aligning Fromm’s psychological theory with literary representation, this research concludes that The Notebook presents mature love as a moral and social force
