Abstract (Abstrak)
Background. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a significant global health problem with an increasing prevalence. In Indonesia, more than 140,000 patients are actively undergoing hemodialysis. However, the role of physiotherapy in hemodialysis patients remains very limited. Objective. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics and role of physiotherapy in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis at Dr. Tadjuddin Chalid General Hospital Makassar in 2025. Methods. A retrospective descriptive quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach was conducted using secondary data from the medical records of hemodialysis patients in 2025. A total of 123 medical records from 152 data were selected using total sampling. Variables included age, sex, hemodialysis frequency, eGFR value, comorbidities, survival rate, mortality, and physiotherapy intervention. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics with SPSS. Results. Patients were predominantly in the early and late elderly group (46–65 years, 61.8%), mostly male (59.3%). The most common hemodialysis frequency was twice weekly (54.5%). The majority of patients were in the eGFR G5 category (<15 mL/min/1.73 m²) at 94.3%. The most prevalent comorbidity was cardiovascular disease (94.4%). Mortality was 26%, with the highest ratio in patients with once-weekly hemodialysis (33.3%). The mean survival was 23 ± 20.10 months. Only 5.7% of patients received physiotherapy intervention. Conclusions. Hemodialysis patients were predominantly elderly with severe kidney function decline (eGFR G5), high cardiovascular comorbidities, and short-to-medium-term survival. The role of physiotherapy remains very limited; thus, optimizing physiotherapy interventions as part of comprehensive rehabilitation is highly necessary to improve functional capacity and quality of life in hemodialysis patients. Latar Belakang. Frekuensi hemodialisis terbanyak 2 kali/minggu (54,5%). Sebagian besar pasien berada pada kategori eGFR G5 (<15 mL/menit/1,73 m²) sebanyak 94,3%. Komorbid terbanyak penyakit kardiovaskular (94,4%).
