Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) is an acute viral disease that is highly contagious in cloven-hoofed animals and can cause significant economic losses. In addition to causing vesicular lesions in the oral cavity and hooves, FMD can also cause systemic pathological changes, one of which is in the heart, especially in calves. This study aimed to determine the pathological changes in the heart of Bali cattle suspected of having FMD at the Patallassang Ranch, Hasanuddin University, Gowa Regency. This was a descriptive observational study using a case study approach. The sample consisted of the heart of one Bali calf that died with clinical symptoms suggestive of FMD. The examination was conducted macroscopically (anatomical pathology) and microscopically (histopathology) using Hematoxylin-Eosin staining. The macroscopic examination results showed uneven myocardial discoloration, softer heart consistency, hyperemia, and a characteristic tiger heart-like appearance. Microscopic examination revealed degeneration and necrosis of cardiac muscle fibers, mononuclear inflammatory cell infiltration, and interstitial edema, indicating myocarditis. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that FMD infection in Bali cattle suspected of having FMD causes pathological changes in the heart in the form of acute to subacute myocarditis, which has the potential to cause death, especially in calves.
