Abstract (Abstrak)

ERI RAHMAWATY ELYAS SALEH. ABSTRACT ERI RAHMAWATY ELYAS SALEH. Factors Associated with Adherence to Tuberculosis Prevention Therapy (TPT) in Makassar City in 2025 (supervised by Wahiduddin and Ansariadi) Background: Tuberculosis Prevention Therapy (TPT) is a key strategy in reducing tuberculosis cases by preventing latent infections from progressing to active disease. However, the effectiveness of this program is highly dependent on patient compliance. In Makassar City, TPT compliance still faces various challenges related to individual, social, and healthcare system factors. Objective: This study aims to analyze factors associated with TPT compliance, emphasizing the role of intention and perception within the Health Belief Model framework and the contribution of external factors such as family support, the role of health workers, access to information, and access to health facilities. Method: This study used a cross-sectional design involving 120 respondents receiving TPT at the Makassar City Health Center. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed in stages through univariate, bivariate (Chi-square test), and multivariate analysis using ordinal logistic regression to identify the dominant factors affecting compliance. Results: Most respondents showed a good level of compliance with TPT. Bivariate analysis showed that intention, family support, the role of health workers, access to health information, and access to health facilities were significantly associated with compliance. Multivariate analysis revealed that intention was the most dominant factor influencing compliance, followed by the role of health workers and family support. These findings indicate that although individuals' perceptions of TPT are not always strong, adequate external support can reinforce compliant behavior. Conclusion: Compliance with TPT in Makassar City is the result of interactions between internal and external factors. Strengthening patient intent, improving the quality of healthcare workers' roles, and optimal family support and access to services are key to improving the success of the TPT program. A comprehensive, system-based intervention approach is essential to strengthen sustainable tuberculosis prevention efforts.
