METAFORA KONSEPTUAL DAN SKEMA GAMBAR DALAM LIRIK LAGU ALBUM BUZZ NIKI = THE CONCEPTUAL METAPHOR AND IMAGE SCHEMA IN SONG LYRICS OF NIKI'S BUZZ ALBUM

Metaphors in song lyrics allow listeners to grasp abstract emotions through concrete experiences. Understanding how these metaphors work cognitively requires examining the underlying image schemas related to bodily experience. Objective. This study aims to explain and identify the sources and target domains used in the metaphors and image schemas found in the lyrics of NIKI’s Buzz album. It also aims to analyze how meanings are constructed through the interaction between metaphors and image schemas in the album. Method. A qualitative descriptive approach is employed to analyze 13 songs from NIKI’s Buzz album, collected from the official website genius.com. Each song is examined using Conceptual Metaphor Theory (Lakoff & Johnson, 1980) and Image Schema Theory (Croft & Cruse, 2004). Findings. The findings reveal four main conceptual metaphors such as “Love is Physical Force”, “Love is a Journey”, “Love is a Game”, and “Life is a Gamble”, supported by five image schemas: Force, Scale, Unity/Multiplicity, Identity, and Existence. Among these, the metaphor “Love is Physical Force” and the Force Schema are the most dominant, showing that love is depicted as an external and overwhelming power beyond individual control. Conclusion. The metaphors and image schemas work systematically to construct meaning in the Buzz album. This alignment demonstrates that NIKI’s metaphors emerge from consistent bodily experiences, reinforcing the album’s central theme of radical acceptance.
