Abstract (Abstrak)
Nurul Mustafa Amal. 2025. Racism in Holly Jackson’s Novel A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. (Supervised by Fathu Rahman and Rezky Ramadhani) This study discusses the conflict in the novel A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, which narrates the journey of Pip Fitz Amobi in reinvestigating a murder case for her final school assesment and to uphold justice for the Singh Family. Through her investigation, Pip goes through many obstacles and barriers where he learns many valuable things. This study focuses on the conflict of racism experienced by the Singh Family and analyzes how racism impacts their lives. This study uses a structuralism approach by Ferdinand de Saussure to analyze intrinsic elements such as characterization, plot, setting, and theme. It also utilizes Kenneth J. Neubeck’s theory of racism to examine the racism occured in the novel A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. Additionally, the study uses qualitative and descriptive methods to analyze the research data, which is derived from the novel itself. The results of this study indicate that there are two types of racism that found in the novel related to personal racism and institutional racism. The writer also identifies the impacts of racism experienced by the Singh Family, which are social impacts and psychological impacts.
