Abstract (Abstrak)
MUH. SYAHREZA AGUNG WIJAYANTHO. Morphosemantic Analysis in the Digital Slang of Generation Alpha through Social Media in Indonesia (supervised by Abdul Hakim Yassi and Sukmawaty). Background. Generation Alpha, born after 2010, grows up in a technology-driven environment with early exposure to social media, shaping their language and communication styles. Their use of digital slang reflects unique linguistic dynamics that have yet to be extensively explored. Objective. This study aims to analyse the forms of slang used by Generation Alpha in Indonesia and elaborated the slang by using Rochelle Lieber’s morphosemantic theory. It also aims to extend the theory from leiber. Method. A mixed-method approach was used to analyse 15 slangs collected from students of SMP Athirah and SMP 1 Pangkajene. Each slang term was analyzed morphologically and semantically using Lieber’s theory. Findings. The results reveal that the most dominant forms of slang are clipping, acronyms, and zero derivation. Each term carries semantic primitives such as BE, ACT, and HAVE. New terms such as sigma, alpha, rizz, and big L illustrate how Generation Alpha adopts and adapts expressions from Greek letters and viral internet culture. This study also extends Lieber’s theory by integrating digital and sociocultural dimensions. Conclusion. The digital slang used by Generation Alpha reflects a shift in communication patterns among Indonesian youth. Through morphosemantic analysis, this research offers deeper insights into how slang is formed and understood, while also contributing to the development of modern linguistic theory.
