Abstract (Abstrak)
KARTINI. The Relationship Between Nutritional Status with Quality of Life of Children Diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in the Pediatric Ward of RSUP Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo, Makassar (supervised by Ummi Pratiwi Rimayanti) Background: Childhood cancer is a serious global health problem and the second leading cause of death in children aged 5-14 years, with the highest incidence of leukemia in children under five years, especially acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Children with ALL often experience a decline in quality of life due to the disease and side effects of treatment, which is significantly influenced by nutritional status. Aim: To determine the relationship between nutritional status with quality of life of children diagnosed with ALL in the pediatric ward of RSUP Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo, Makassar. Method: This study is a quantitative correlational study with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 55 children aged 5-18 years diagnosed with ALL in the pediatric ward, selected using a total sampling technique. The research instruments consisted of a nutritional status observation sheet based on BMI/U and a children's quality of life questionnaire using PedsQL 4.0. Results: The results showed that all children with undernutrition and obesity had poor quality of life, whereas children with normal and overweight nutritional status demonstrated a higher proportion of good quality of life. The statistical test using Pearson Chi-Square yielded a value of ρ=0.032 <α=0.05. Conclusion: There is a relationship between nutritional status and quality of life in children diagnosed with ALL in the pediatric ward of RSUP Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo, Makassar. Recommendation Collaboration among parents, nurses, and hospitals is needed in managing the nutritional status of children with ALL to support improvements in quality of life, and further studies with larger samples and stronger study designs are recommended.
