Abstract (Abstrak)

SITI ALO PASARIBU. The Effect of Honey Candy on Estrogen Levels, Stress Levels, and Mood Levels in Housewives with Children Aged 0-2 Years (Supervised by Andi Nilawati Usman and Muh.Tamar) Background: An essential hormone, estrogen affects both reproductive and non-reproductive aspects of a woman's life, including her mood and reaction to stress. Prolonged stress can upset the balance of hormones, including estrogen levels, because stress is a physiological and psychological reaction to pressure. Mood disorders are one consequence of long-term stress. The strains of dual tasks, lack of sleep, and heavy emotional loads make stay-at-home moms with children ages 0–2 more vulnerable to stress, which can affect their hormonal balance and mental health. Bioactive substances like flavonoids, polyphenols, and antioxidants are known to be present in honey and may help balance hormones and elevate mood. As a complementary therapy, honey and ginger are combined to create Honey Candy. As an easy-to-consume complementary therapy, honey and ginger are combined to create Honey Candy, which supports housewives' well-being.Objective: The purpose of this study is to ascertain how Honey Candy affects the levels of estrogen, stress, and mood in housewives with children aged 0–2. Makassar, Indonesia, was the site of this investigation. Method: A quasi-experimental design using a one-group pre-post test strategy was used in the study. Twenty individuals who satisfied the inclusion requirements were given five grams of honey candy three times a day for three days as part of the intervention. The ELISA Kit method was used to test estrogen levels, while questionnaires such as the Profile of Mood States (POMS) and the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) were used to gauge mood and stress levels. Results: The study found that while eating honey candy significantly decreased stress (p = 0.000) and elevated mood (p = 0.000), it had no discernible effect on estrogen levels (p = 0.351). Estrogen levels did not significantly correlate with either mood (p = 0.392) or stress (p = 0.374). Conclusion: According to the study's findings, Honey Candy is a useful supplemental treatment for housewives with small children who want to improve their mood and reduce stress, even though it does not affect estrogen levels.
