Abstract (Abstrak)
This study looks into how bilingual language use, specifically code-switching, is used by the creators of the Garasi Drift YouTube channel. By focusing on conversations in several of their videos, the research explores the ways in which Indonesian and English are blended during interactions, especially when the speakers are abroad or talking about technical car-related content. Using a qualitative approach, the analysis is based on theories from Hoffman and Gumperz to identify the types and purposes of code-switching. This research used the qualitative method to analyze the types and functions of code switching in the “Garasi Drift” YouTube channel. The findings show that the speakers often switch languages within sentences (intra-sentential switching) and use English to add emotion, emphasize ideas, or connect more easily with a wider audience. Rather than being random, the use of two languages is intentional and meaningful; it reflects the speakers' identities, makes the content more engaging, and helps bridge different cultures and audiences. This research highlights how digital platforms like YouTube can serve as rich sources for observing real-world language use and offers insights for educators, content creators, and linguists interested in how people communicate in today’s multilingual world.
