Abstract (Abstrak)

Indah Hairunisah. Analysis of Equivalence in Translating English Idioms in Percy Jackson and the Olympians: the Sea of Monsters into Indonesian (Supervised by Noer Jihad Saleh and Husain Hasyim). This study aims to identify the equivalence level of Indonesian translation of English idioms and the translation methods applied in translating Percy Jackson and the Olympians: the Sea of Monsters. The writer used mixed methods to analyzed the data. The data was collected from the English and Indonesian version of Percy Jackson and the Olympians: the Sea of Monsters book. The writer then analyzed and classified the data by comparing the source language and the target language using translation methods theory by Baker that said there are four types of translation methods used in translating the book. They are translation using an idiom of similar meaning and form (ISMF), Using an Idiom of Similar meaning but Dissimilar Form (IDF), Translation by Paraphrase (TP), and Translation by Omission (TO). The findings of this research are the methods of translation used and the used frequency of each method. The most commonly used translation method is TP with total occurrence of 37. IDF is at the second place with total occurrence of 32. ISMF follows at the third place with total occurrence of 12. Lastly, the least commonly used translation method is TO, with 1 total occurrence.
