Abstract (Abstrak)

This study examines the concept of beauty privilege in Jane Austen's novel Pride and Prejudice, focusing on how beauty affects women's experiences within social hierarchies and interactions, as well as the impact of this phenomenon. Through an analysis of events and characters, the study explains how socially constructed beauty standards influence social status, character relationships, and marriage opportunities. A Structuralism Approach is used to analyze the novel’s intrinsic elements, including characterization, plot, setting, and theme. Using a qualitative descriptive method, this study reveals that beauty privilege plays a significant role in shaping how female characters are perceived and treated. Through the experiences of Jane Bennet, Elizabeth Bennet, and Charlotte Lucas, the research shows how physical appearance can shape social mobility, opportunities, and respect. The findings prompt critical reflection on how literature reflects real-life social biases and fosters awareness of the values that often prioritize appearance over character. This research offers a deeper understanding of how beauty privilege operates in classic literature and remains relevant to contemporary discussions on social inequality.
