Abstract (Abstrak)

Andi Muh. Ryamizard Patempoi. The Performing of Code Switching by Workers Case Study at: Balai Pengembangan Penjaminan Mutu Pendidikan Vokasi Bidang Kelautan Perikanan Teknologi Informasi & Komunikasi. (Supervised by Husain Hasyim and Ainun Fatimah). This research aims to (1) find out the reasons of why code switching conducted by workers at BPPMPV KPTK, and (2) analyze the function of code switching for workers at BPPMPV KPTK. This study used qualitative descriptive method to conduct the research. The data were collected by using observation and questionnaire from workers daily conversation. The reasons of code switching were classified based on the theory of Myers and Ury and the functions of code switching is based on Blom and Gumperz theory in Yassi theoretical framework. The research was conducted in several steps. First researcher observed workers conversation. After observing, researcher then sent questionnaire to workers and selected 30 participants. Then, analyzed the data by their type, reasons, and functions with the gathered data from observation and questionnaire. Finally, writher drew a conclusion based on analyzed data. Based on the result of the analysis, three types of reasons were found. They are identity arena, power arena, and transactional arena. For the functions, two function types were found namely situational function and metaphorical function. Additionally, in metaphorical function, four form of metaphorical function were found namely quotation, addressee specification, reiteration and message qualification.
