Abstract (Abstrak)

Online Games and The Impact on Students English Vocabulary Acquisition: A Study at Uin Alauddin Makassar (supervised by Nasmilah and Abidin) This study aims to (1) measure the overall vocabulary size of students at UIN Alauddin Makassar, (2) disclose the effect of online games on their vocabulary acquisition, and (3) reveal students' perceptions of using online games for vocabulary learning. Utilizing a descriptive quantitative research method, the sample comprised 73 English literature students in the 4th and 6th semesters who regularly play the online game Genshin Impact and have completed the Vocabulary class. The research instruments included a questionnaire and a vocabulary test. The results indicated that students possess moderate to high vocabulary proficiency, with an average score of 75.98, suggesting that interactive and engaging methods like online games can effectively enhance vocabulary learning. The findings revealed that online games positively influence vocabulary acquisition and improve related skills such as listening, reading, speaking, writing, word selection, sentence arrangement, and pronunciation. Students reported that their enjoyment and engagement with Genshin Impact significantly contributed to their vocabulary acquisition. These conclusions underscore the potential benefits of integrating online games into language learning programs to enhance students' overall language proficiency and related skills.
